About Me

Bio

I am Daniel Campbell-Williams and for the past 16 years, I have been working on websites and user interfaces. During this time, I have been a tutor at the University of New South Wales, freelanced, worked in agencies and found my niche in the E-Health industry.

Since October 2009, I have worked at Rare ID and I'm currently the senior interactive developer and designer. In my team I have a mid-level developer & designer and a junior. It's quite a small firm so I'm used to collaborating with the branding and print designers in order to produce sites which best represent and enhance the brand and style which they have created.

When it comes to developing websites, I'm seldom content with simply downloading a plugin as a solution for effects, widgets or Wordpress functionality. I much prefer attempting to develop my own solution and seeing how far I get before getting stuck or completely solving the issue. I feel that while it may sometimes be faster to get an instant solution, working out a problem yourself is far more valuable in the long run.

I have experience with most of the Adobe creative suite including some work with Encore, Premiere Pro and After Effects. However, I work mostly with Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. In addition to my work as a designer and developer, I have also been responsible for photographing all of the pieces of collateral produced for each project so that they can be added to the website.

Outside of work, I like to spend a lot of time riding my bikes with mates and at a competitive level. I'm a fairly competitive rider and frequently push myself to extremes for the sake of acheivements, but at the same time I always enjoy silly things like jumps and wheelies. This attitude to riding has earned me a place in the Over Yonder Racing Team, which is sponsored by Giant Bicycles. As a testament to my determination, in the past 18 months I have:

  • Cycled the 600km from Sydney to Wagga Wagga in 3 days,
  • Ridden past the cumulative elevation of Mount Everest (8848m) to 9250m in 16 hours and 344km with a fractured hand
  • Bike-packed from the South to the North of Tasmania as part of a team adventure along The Tasmanian Trail
  • Completed various challenges of distance and elevation (1000km in 7 days and 11250m of elevation in 7 days)

In short, I don't always take the simplest route, but I will always reach the end with a grin.
